Greg Schiano is a good man. he is a great recruiter and he cares about academics. He is also a poor gameday coach and very stubborn.

This was never more evident than last night in Piscataway.

Rutgers was lucky to beat South Florida, 20-17 in overtime. Rutgers is a better team than South Florida.

Schiano has stubbornly stuck with true freshman Gary Nova at qb despite the fact that he is not ready for prime time. Nova had a horrible first half and Rutgers was down 10-0 with no energy.

Nova inexplicably started the second half. Back-up and former starter Chas Dodd was not even warming up. Dodd was the reason that one time superstar qb Tom Savage had transferred to Arizona.

Schiano finally broke with form at the end of the third quarter and Dodd started to warm up. The crowd of 39,000 plus cheered when he came in.

Dodd engineered a fourth quarter drive which tied the score at 10-10 and assisted Rutgers in overtime to a game winning field goal by San San Te, the first of his career.

Nova was 11-24 for 110 yards and lost 23 yards rushing. Dodd was 11-17 for 125 yards in one quarter.

Rutgers is now 6-3 and many feel could be 8-1 with Dodd at the helm.

Rutgers plays Army on Saturday at Yankee Stadium and is now bowl eligible.
